Counseling Positions

Day Camp Counseling Team: Positions Filled

(June 7 - August 11 or 17) For high school juniors, seniors and recent graduates.  Must be at least 16 years old by June 7. Responsible to lead a small group of day campers, build friendships, facilitate Bible discussions, lead activities, and much more. Need to be an enthusiastic leader, sensitive listener, positive role model, and a servant willing to serve where needed. Must possess a growing and active faith in Christ and teachable heart. Need to have a love for and rapport with elementary-aged children.  Day Camp staff will spend the majority of their time with and around children.  Must be recommended by pastor or church leader. Must be in good health and be prepared for a physically and emotionally challenging summer.

 

Counseling Team: Male Positions Waitlist Only; Female Positions Filled

(June 7 - August 11 or 17) Must have completed one year of college or be at least 19 years old by June 7. Responsible to lead a group of campers while building relationships in group situations, one-on-one interaction, activity leadership, and much more. Needs to be an enthusiastic leader, sensitive listener, positive role model, servant, and friend to every kid in the cabin. Must possess a mature and active faith in Christ and the ability to lead creative Bible studies. Need to have a love for, rapport with, and some experience interacting with elementary through junior high school students. Counselor applicants must be prepared to spend the vast majority of their time with campers.  Must be in good health and be prepared for a physically and emotionally challenging summer.  Counselors will rotate through Pier 30 (4th-9th graders) and Kishwauketoe (1st-3rd graders) programs and plug into the family camp program.  A few counselors are hired for the Kishwauketoe Counseling Team which has the same counseling responsibilities but with a focus on 1st-3rd grade campers and an additional two or more weeks with the Kish program.

 

 

Non-Counseling Positions

Assistant Program Directors: Positions Filled

(May 27 - Aug. 18; 3 positions - Day Camp, Kishwauketoe, Pier 30)  College juniors or seniors desired.  Responsible to assist the program director in development and daily implementation of Bible program, thematic skits, daily schedule and extra activities.  Support program director with creative, administrative and organizational gifts.  Camp counseling and creative programming experience is highly preferable.  Must have ability to take initiative, vigorous health (stamina), flexibility, creativity, ideas for skits and drama, communication skills, and a good sense of humor.  Essential to have a proven rapport with kids, a servant heart and contagious love for Christ.

 

Alpha Counselors/Assistant Directors: Positions Filled

(May 27 - Aug. 18; 2 positions; College juniors or seniors desired) Responsible to assist the program director in development and daily implementation of Bible program, service projects and activities.  Support program director with creative, administrative and organizational gifts.  Will live with, supervise and work behind the scenes alongside Alpha campers on projects and assignments.  Need to have a passion for mentoring, motivating, and encouraging high school students in a small community.  Must have leadership experience with high school students in a camp (or similar) environment.  Must be self-starting, organized, fun-loving, and willing to go the extra mile to make camp meaningful and exciting.  Essential to have a proven rapport with high school students, a servant heart and contagious love for Christ.

 

Arts and Crafts Instructor: Position Filled

(June 4 - August 17) Instruct campers, develop activities, manage risks, and maintain arts and crafts equipment and facilities.  Plan projects, maintain supplies, promote crafts, and help kids explore their creativity and artistic gifts. Also responsible to help with other camp programs and activities as needed.

 

Administrative Assistants: Positions Filled

(May 31 - August 17; 2 positions) Responsible to help Parent Liaison, Camp Registrar and Youth Ministry Team with camper check-in and check-out, summer budgets, camper feedback system, and other administrative tasks. Must relate well to parents and have good secretarial and organizational skills. Participate in program and plug into cabin groups as time permits.  Computer and organizational skills required.  Each of the two positions will divide responsibilities and program involvement as best fits the abilities and interests of the administrative team members.

 

Audio Tech: Position Filled

(June 4 - August 17) Run lights, video, and sound for all programs and activities.  Maintain all equipment regularly.  Must have significant related experience, technical aptitude, creative abilities and be willing to work in other areas with campers.  Also responsible to help with afternoon and evening programs as requested.

  

Facilities Specialist: Positions Available

(multiple positions; late-May - mid August) Positions include kitchen work, maintenance, grounds, housekeeping or a combination of all.  Work behind the scenes with year round staff members to physically care for the facility and needs of the summer program.  Must be a hard worker with a lot of initiative.  Also responsible to help with other camp programs and activities as needed.

 

Logistics Coordinator: Position Filled

(May 27- Aug. 18) Must be 21; College junior, senior or graduate desired.  Work with program directors to plan and implement summer camp schedule.  Train, coordinate, supervise and care for the activity instructors (arts & crafts, target sports, skate park) and coordinate the Alpha team and non-counseling staff to support all programs. Instruct staff in the safe use of our nature center, skate park, mountain boards, air rifles, batting cage, archery equipment, and arts & craft programs. Develop and supervise each of these activities and go the extra mile to make them fun for kids.  Maintain and inspect equipment regularly.  Must have some experience in activity leadership, a great love for kids and the ability to take initiative and delegate responsibilities.

 
Parent Liaison: Position Filled

(May 25 - Aug. 18) Must be 21; College senior or graduate desired.  Work with the Youth Ministry Director as a Parent Liaison, providing an important communication link between camp and all parents.  Liaison will work with appropriate staff to ensure implementation of all parental communication (blog, twitter and Facebook updates, photo uploads, emails, etc.) and provide quality control in said communications.  Will also coordinate and ensure implementation of parent relations, check-in, check-out, follow up, lost and found and other administrative tasks.  Train, supervise and care for the administrative assistants. 

 

Program Directors:  Positions Filled

(May 25 - Aug. 18); 4 positions - Day Camp, Kishwauketoe, Pier 30, Alpha) College seniors or graduates desired. Responsibilities include: administration, up-front leadership, risk management, budgeting, scheduling, staff care and supervision, quality control, facility upkeep, program activities, and Bible program implementation.  Provide leadership in staff training, games, announcements, daily activities, and theme implementation.  Need to have a passion for mentoring, motivating, and encouraging other staff.  Must have leadership experience with children, high school students, and college-age students in a camp (or similar) environment.  Must be self-starting, organized, fun-loving, and willing to go the extra mile to make camp meaningful and exciting.  Essential to have a proven rapport with peers and kids, commitment to excellence, and a contagious love for Christ.

 

Skate Park Instructor: Position Filled

(May 31 - August 17) Instruct and supervise campers, manage risks, and maintain Skate Park equipment and facilities. Supervise skaters, in-line skaters, and scooter use in skate park, and ensure that the appropriate safety equipment is being worn.  Use available time to teach campers at their appropriate level.  Also maintain equipment for and direct others in supervision of mountain boarding and BMX bikes.  Also responsible to help with other camp programs and activities as needed.

  

Song Leader: Position Available

(June 4 - August 17) Work with the Youth Ministry Team, Program Directors to plan and implement music and worship for all three programs.  Need contagious love for Jesus, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, and the ability to lead singing for large groups of youth. Responsible to set up and maintain stage and audio equipment. Must be willing to serve in a variety of areas including daily activity leadership.  Must have strong accompanying skills on guitar.  Piano and percussion abilities are also desired.  Also responsible to help with other camp programs and activities as needed. 

 
Student Nurse: Positions Filled

(June 4 - August 17; Must be 21 with a valid driver’s license and clean driving record) Responsible for camper and staff health and safety.  Work with other staff and weekly guest RN to attend to all illness and injury and refer to local doctors when necessary. Keep journal records, maintain infirmary, and transport campers to the clinic. Minimum of 1 year of nursing classes required. Minimum community CPR and First Aid required.  Must relate well to campers and parents.  Also responsible to help with other camp programs and activities as needed.

 

Target Sports Instructor: Position Filled

(May 31 - August 17) Instruct campers, develop activities, manage risks, and maintain equipment and facilities. Teach archery and air rifles at our range as well as help with BMX bikes, mountain boards, batting cage and other activities.  Also responsible to help with other camp programs and activities as needed.

 
Team Counselors: Positions Filled

(May 25 - Aug. 18; 1 male, 1 female; College seniors, graduates or seminary students desired) Responsibilities include: providing support, prayer, encouragement, personal counseling, and spiritual leadership for summer staff.  Disciple, train and evaluate counseling staff.  Equip staff in evangelism and small group Bible study.  Organize staff devotions, prayer support network and daily prayer coverage. May play role in drama and worship leading. Must have leadership experience (preferably with college students), camp counseling experience, peer counseling and small group skills, communication skills, and a passion to see and encourage others to grow in their faith.

 

Video Tech: Position Available

(May 31 - August 17) Shoot video throughout each week highlighting that week of Pier 30 camp.  Edit raw footage down into a 10-15 minute, action-packed camper video that will be sold to campers and parents at the end of each week. Burn and package dvd’s. Edit additional videos as needed.  Maintain all equipment regularly.  Must have significant related experience, technical aptitude, creative abilities, and rapport with kids.  Also responsible to help with other camp programs and activities as needed.   

 

Waterfront Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor:  Supervisor Filled; Assistant Position Available 

(May 25 - Aug. 18 Supervisor; May 27 - Aug 18 Assistant) Must be 21;  College junior (assistant only), senior or graduate desired.  Train, coordinate, supervise and care for the waterfront team and waterfront facility. Lead in the opening and closing of the waterfront facilities at the beginning and end of the summer.  Provide a safe, clean, and fun waterfront environment.  Regularly maintain all equipment and keep accurate boat logs.  Maintain appropriate fuel supply for boat use.  Ensure strict adherence to our buddy system, safe boating regulations, and lost or injured camper and swimmer drills.  Assist with camp programs during evenings.  Current WSI, Lifeguard Training, CPR Pro Rescuer and First Aid required prior to arrival.

 

Waterfront Team: Positions Available 

(May 31- August 17) Help provide a safe, clean, and fun waterfront environment.  Responsibilities include lifeguarding, boat driving, waterfront clean up and activity leadership. Responsible to assist Pier 30 and Kishwauketoe programs every evening. Must have a warm personality, physical stamina, a positive attitude, willingness to serve where needed and be prepared for a physically demanding work environment.  Current Lifeguard Training, CPR Pro Rescuer and First Aid required prior to arrival.  Also responsible to help with other camp programs and activities as needed.
