General Info

Age Groups

Because the majority of campers register in the winter, the grade for our camp programs is based on the current (fall 2011 - spring 2012) school year.  Therefore, during the summer Element Camp will be filled with campers who have just finished 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades.

Spending Money

At check-in you will have the opportunity to put spending money in your camper's camp store account.  This money will allow them to purchase things during free time at our camp stores.  There is candy, soda, water and Gatorade ranging from $.25 to $1.25.  Element campers are limited to $4.50 per day on snacks, candy and soda.  Water and Gatorade are not limited.  They can also purchase Harbor souvenirs from the store.  CLICK HERE to see what our store has to offer.

In addition to the store, spending money deposited in a camper's account will be used for some activity charges.  Every camper is provided the opportunity for one boat ride during the week free of charge but there may be the opportunity for campers to sign up for an additional ride durring free time.  This second ride will cost campers $3.00 taken from their spending money account.  Similarly, if a camper wishes to take part in more than one high ropes/climbing activity, also offered during free time, these second opportunities will also cost $3.00 from their spending account.  Element Camp will be taking a handful of trips into town for which campers may want to have cash on hand.

What NOT to Bring

Do not bring cell phones or any pets, electronic devices (including CD players, game systems, and iPods), firearms, weapons of any kind, fireworks, tobacco, alcohol or drugs.

Campers will have one opportunity to turn in their cell phones on the first night of camp.  Any cell phones discovered after that point may result in immediate dismissal from the camp program.

Cabin Requests

It is great to invite your friends to come to camp with you, and we want to make it possible for your camper to be in a cabin with his/her friends.  There is a spot on the registration form (Cabinmate Requests), where you can list the names of up to two other people your camper would like to be housed with.  Due to the size of our cabins and our desire to form a healthy cabin community, we will not put more than three campers together in one cabin.  If your group is larger than three, campers will be separated in different cabins based on first choice cabinmate requests.

Cabin/Counselor Assignments

Every camper is excited to learn what cabin they will be in and who their counselor is.  That information is available during the check-in process upon arrival.  We can tell you that all of our Element campers will be staying in our Geneva Bay Center conference building in air conditioned hotel style rooms.

Arriving at Camp

Check-in

Check-in occurs Sunday July 8th, and specific arrival times will be given after registration.  Upon arrival, our staff will greet your family and guide you through the check-in and move-in process.  Element Camp will officially start with a welcome and orientation session at 5:00.  Our staff does not assume responsibility for campers until the conclusion of this session.

Late drop-off/early pick-up

Late arrival or early pick-up is highly discouraged and should be considered only in extreme circumstances.  If you must arrive late for any reason please call our office in advance so we may prepare for your arrival.  Early pick up can be arranged at check-in.  We will not allow a camper to be picked up and dropped off more than once during the camp week because of the negative impact it has on yours and other campers.

Program Highlights

Workshops - Element campers get the chance to choose between several topics for each day's workshop time.  Our goal for these times is to facilitate learning and growth in specific areas of our relationship with God and address struggles teen have.  Each workshop is creative and age appropriate and, of course, campers are never forced or coerced to make any decisions.  These times are designed to be interactive, with creative teaching methods and intentional discussion built in.  To learn more about the spiritual goals of our summer camp programs, CLICK HERE.

Small Groups/Quiet Time - Based on the Bible program for the week campers will have different small group discussions and quiet times.  Small groups are a chance for the counselors to present some information or a topic and then facilitate discussion.  Quiet time is a chance for campers to sit quietly in God's Presence, read from their Bibles, and spend time with God.  They are encouraged to write or journal while being outside in God's beautiful creation.

AM Activities- Element Camp provides campers the chance to try new and exciting activities they may have never done here at Harbor or anywhere before.  Some days campers may be able to pick from a list of options and on others they may be assigned to a larger group taking part in a unique experience.  Ultimately, these activities will be fun, unique, and memorable for our campers.

Free Time - Free Time allows campers to control their schedule and decide for themselves how they would like to spend their afternoon.  Counselors make available options known to campers and inform them of any available.  All activities are supervised by trained counselors and other staff.

This is the time when Element campers may be able to sign up for activities like tubing, banana boating, water playground, high ropes, giant swing and the climbing tower.  Keep in mind, while a camper's first boat ride and climbing/adventure experience is included in the cost of camp, additional boat rides and adventure activities will carry a $3 charge to be taken from the camper's canteen account.

Evening Activities - These times vary from night to night but each is designed to be special in some way for the Element campers.  Whether it's a fun "Big Game" or unique event, these times are meant to help campers bond with each other and their counselors and hopefully try something new.

Activities

Element campers experience most of Covenant Harbor's greatest activities all day long.  CLICK HERE for details about and photos of our activities.

Facility

During Element Camp campers will stay in the Geneva Bay Center, which is our on site hotel style conference center.  Each cabin group will have two adjoining air conditioned rooms and two bathrooms.  In addition, most of the small and large group teaching times will take place in or around the building.  This special upgrade in housing makes for great hang out and bonding time within cabins and the whole group.
