Volunteer

For more than half a century Covenant Harbor has relied on the faithful efforts of people who have volunteered their time, skills, and energy to lovingly care for this important ministry. Today volunteers are needed more than ever.

You can make a significant difference in the effectiveness of this outreach. Your gift of time increases the number of tasks and projects that are completeted as well as providing a real savings in operational expense. This translates directly into an improved ministry.

Ways to volunteer include:

  • Become a volunteer coordinator for your church, class, or organization
  • Participate in planned volunteer days or weekends
  • Bring your family and friends to work together on specific projects
  • Offer your skills as a carpenter, nurse, electrician, decorator, mechanic,  gardener, plumber, etc
  • Encourage your church to participate in our Adopt-a-Building program
  • Take on projects you can do in your own home or shop

For more information  on how you can make a difference at Covenant Harbor as a volunteer contact Herb Clauson at 262-249-3600 or email Herb.

Maple Fest

Every spring Covenant Harbor invites the community to breakfast and an opportunity to enjoy its beautiful grounds during Maple Fest.  Maple Fest 2008 is on March 30th.  We have an all you can eat pancake breakfast that runs till 3 p.m. where we serve our famous oatmeal pancakes--YUM!  We also have a craft fair, helicopter rides, activities for kids, maple tours and a summer camp open house.   Many people are needed to make this happen.  In 2007 we had over 1800 guests and served over 1300 people breakfast!  If you are interested in being a Maple Fest volunteer please contact Peter Hatlestad.  This is a great way to get familiar with the camp and all the people who are a part of this ministry.

TLC Days

Periodically TLC days are scheduled when specific projects can be done. These special days are usually scheduled in the Spring and Fall. No dates are set at this time but when days are planned they follow this format:

Each TLC day begins at 9 am on Saturday and work continues until around 3:30 pm. If you want to come up on Friday afternoon for a few hours as well or even if you cant make it until later Saturday morning, we would love to have you join us.

Covenant Harbor is offering one free overnight on the weekend you volunteer and Saturday breakfast (if you make it by 8:30 am), lunch, and dinner (if you are staying over Saturday night). Come up on Friday night for an early start Saturday or stay over until Sunday and rest after a full day

What will be doing? Below is a list of possible projects that we will be looking at tackling on the TLC weekends.

Painting

Walls, doors, doorframes, chair railing, stairway railings, bathroom dividers, trim work, elevator doors, boathouse railing, window frames, and more.

Cleaning

Several buildings need a deep cleaning. Some of the tasks involved will be to wash curtains, shower curtains, vents, mattresses, and kick plates, clean out fireplaces, clean carpets and furniture, power wash the exterior, and more.

Gardening

Weeding, planting, dividing plants, and cleaning up.

Construction

Various projects including drywall repair, deck repair, replace door latches and stops, duct work repair, cut new vents in shower doors, screen repair, caulking, add fiberglass board to showers, add wood trim around A/C units, install down spouts, electrical labeling on circuit breakers (electrician), work on A/C-heating units (someone with this knowledge), and more.

Miscellaneous

Touch up finish on furniture and woodwork, tighten shower rods and towel bars, repair/replace shutters, repair wallpaper, replace ceiling tiles, remove old carpet, install carpet squares, and more.

Due to changing group schedules, weather and numbers of volunteers, we have chosen not to attach projects to specific weekends until we get closer to each date. However, if there is an area that you or a group from your church would like to work in, like construction or planting, let us know.

If you are unable to participate, you can still be a part of the projects by making a donation to cover the cost of the supplies needed for these days.

Any donation you make whether it is time, a talent, supplies, or money will be greatly appreciated.
